SUMMARY:Songkran Festival
DESCRIPTION:Songkran is an annual festival which takes place over 3 days during the traditional Thai New Year\, April 13th-15th (in almost all provinces). The official Songkran festival lasts 3 days but\, in reality\, the whole week is taken over by a mass celebration as the whole country shuts down for a momentous water fight. Wild scenes of exuberance can be seen throughout the Kingdom with music\, dancing\, drinking and people drenched from head to toe. Water guns\, hose pipes\, buckets\, in fact\, anything you can get your hands on can be used to splash people\, and one thing is for certain: you will get wet! \nAs April is the hottest month of the year in Thailand\, everyone gets involved with this country-wide water fight and it brings great relief from the soaring temperatures. Songkran started as a Buddhist tradition\, using a light sprinkling of water to symbolize purification but\, as time went by\, people began splashing each other in a more playful manner until recent years\, when the entire country becomes one almighty water fight celebrated by millions!

SUMMARY:Chinese New Year
DESCRIPTION:This is when the new lunar year officially begins\, and lasts over two weeks. Traditional celebrations typically span around 16 days\, roughly from 17 February to 3 March 2026 (ending with the Lantern Festival). Chinese New Year is a regional public holiday in provinces with significant Chinese-Thai populations — Narathiwat\, Pattani\, Yala and Satun. \n \nAcross the rest of Thailand\, it’s widely celebrated culturally (especially in Bangkok’s Chinatown (Yaowarat)\, Chiang Mai\, Phuket\, and other cities with Chinese communities)\, but most businesses and government offices may remain open. Expect high hotel prices especially in the first few days\, with more crowded areas than usual.

SUMMARY:Chiang Mai Jazz Festival
DESCRIPTION:Chiang Mai Street Jazz Festival 2025\nThe 7th Chiang Mai Street Jazz Festival\n“Chiang Mai Jazz City: Let the City Play its Jazz”\n\n\nWhat if a place wasn’t remembered by its sights\, but instead by its sounds?\nChiang Mai is discovering its identity through a new melody\, and that language is ‘Jazz.’\n\n\n‘Jazz’ isn’t just imported music; it is an embraced culture. It is the charm of improvisation\, seeping into the daily lives of the city’s people. It is a dialogue that arises between cultural heritage and the pulse of the modern era.\n\n\nA “Jazz City” doesn’t mean a city with performance stages\, but a city where the entire city becomes the stage. It is a city where the chatter of people\, the rhythm of the wind\, and the colors of the streets merge and are played out as a single song.\n\n\nThe 7th Chiang Mai Street Jazz Festival is a celebration where the line between artist and audience blurs\, and we all become part of a grand orchestra named “Chiang Mai.”\n\n\nWe invite you to be part of an experience where the entire city rises to play jazz together. From December 1-4\, with street jazz performances in the old town; December 5-6\, 2025\, with mini-concerts at leading jazz bars across the city: Moment’s Notice Jazz Club\, The Mellowship Jazz Club\, Mahoree City of Music\, Karmar Community Space\, and The North Gate Jazz Co-op; and on December 7\, 2025\, the main stage event at the Old Chiang Mai Cultural Center.\n\n\nCome\, let’s play our city’s song\, loud and clear.

SUMMARY:Yi Peng Lantern Festival 2025
DESCRIPTION:Loy Krathong coincides with the Lanna (northern Thai) festival known as the Yi Peng Lantern Festival. Yi means ‘two’ and peng means a ‘full moon day’. Yi Peng refers to the full moon day in the second month according to the Lanna lunar calendar (the twelfth month of the Thai lunar calendar). The festival is meant as a time to make merit. \nSwarms of sky lanterns (Thai: โคมลอย; RTGS: khom loi)\, literally: ‘floating lanterns’\, are launched into the air. Khom loi are made from a thin fabric\, such as rice paper\, stretched over a bamboo or wire frame\, to which a candle or fuel cell is attached. When the fuel cell is lit\, the resulting hot air is trapped inside the lantern and creates enough lift for the khom loi to float into the sky. During the festival\, some people also decorate their houses\, gardens\, and temples with khom fai (Thai: โคมไฟ)\, intricately shaped paper lanterns which take on different forms. \nChiang Mai Tips: \n\nNo need to buy tickets or pay. From Tha Phae Gate square along Tha Phae Road\, down to the Ping River are all free festivities.\nParade along Tha Phae Road is free.\nCan purchase Lanterns from vendors along the way.\nCan purchase Krathong’s and release in the river across the bridge.\nThe old city hotels fill up\, so book as soon as possible.\n\n  \n \nThe Best Places To Experience Loy Krathong & Yi Peng [2025]

SUMMARY:Loy Krathong Festival 2025
DESCRIPTION:Loy Krathong is a Thai festival celebrated annually throughout Thailand and in nearby countries with significant South Western Thai cultures (Laos\, Shan\, Mon\, Tanintharyi\, Kelantan\, Kedah\, and Xishuangbanna). The name could be translated as “to float ritual vessel or lamp\,” and comes from the tradition of making Krathong or buoyant\, decorated baskets\, which are then floated on a river. Many Thais use the Krathong to thank the Goddess of Water and River\, Goddess Khongkha or to worship the Holy Buddha’s hair pagoda in heaven in Buddhist beliefs. This festival traces its origin back to India. \nLoy Krathong takes place on the evening of the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar\, so the exact date of the festival changes every year. In the Western calendar this usually falls in the month of November. In Chiang Mai\, the festival lasts three days. \nYi Peng is taking place at the same time\, with it’s epic lantern festivals.

SUMMARY:Wan Awk Phansa
DESCRIPTION:End of Buddhist Lent. Wan Awk Phansa; literally “day of going out of Vassa”\, in Thai meaning exit or leave) is the last day of the Thai-Lao observance of Vassa. It occurs in October\, three lunar months after the beginning of Vassa\, known as Wan Khao Phansa.\nThe day is celebrated in the Isan province by illuminated boat processions in Northeastern Thailand\, notably in Nakhon Phanom Province on the Mekong and in Ubon Ratchathani city on the Mun River. \nIn Buddhist belief\, Awk Phansa commemorates Buddha returning to earth from heaven. Buddha spent a three month retreat period in heaven where he visited his mother. On his return to the mortal world\, Buddha’s followers presented him with gifts of food. On Awk Phansa Day\, Thai Buddhists mark the event with a visit to the temple to make merit. The occasion is also celebrated with a number of different regional festivals across Thailand. \nThe main ceremonies feature boats of 8–10 meters in length\, formerly made of banana wood or bamboo but now sometimes of other materials. The boats are filled with offerings such as khao tom (glutinous rice sweets wrapped in banana leaves) and decorated on the outside with flowers\, candles and lamps. The boats are launched in the evening. \nAdditionally\, some celebrants individually launch their own\, smaller\, vessels. Boat races also take place around this time in many places throughout the country as a way to please the Nāga spirits. Along the Mekong River\, people launch little hot air balloons\, acting as lanterns\, around the night of Wan Ok Phansa. \nLaunching the boats (or the lanterns) symbolizes one’s wishes but also getting rid of unnecessary negative feelings. \nThese Are The Best Crazy Festivals In Thailand

SUMMARY:Royal Ploughing Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The Royal Ploughing Ceremony\, also known as The Ploughing Festival\, is an ancient royal rite held in many Asian countries to mark the traditional beginning of the rice growing season. The royal ploughing ceremony\, was also practiced in pre-colonial Burma until 1885\, when the monarchy was abolished. \nIn Thailand\, the ploughing ceremony dates back to the Sukhothai Kingdom (1238–1438). According to Quaritch Wales\, a former adviser to Kings Vajiravudh (Rama VI) and Prajadhipok (Rama VII) of Siam (1924–1928)\, in his book Siamese State Ceremonies\, the Thai adopted the Ploughing Ceremony in toto from the Khmers when they obtained the freedom from Khmer Empire upon the independence of Sukhothai in mid-13th century. \nOther than a morale-boosting strategy\, the Royal Ploughing\, or the auspicious ceremony of Charot Phra Nangkhan Raek Na Khwan (จรดพระนังคัลแรกนาขวัญ) as called in Thai\, serves to announce the beginning of the growing season. The ruler or head of state will preside over the ceremony to deliver this message to the people.

SUMMARY:Songkran-Thai New Year 2025
DESCRIPTION:Songkran is an annual festival which takes place over 3 days during the traditional Thai New Year\, April 13th-15th (in almost all provinces). \n  \nThese Are The Best Crazy Festivals In Thailand

SUMMARY:Chinese New Year
DESCRIPTION:Although it’s never been an official holiday in Thailand\, Chinese New Year is celebrated throughout the country and not just by those who can claim Chinese heritage. Some restaurants and businesses in certain areas (such as Bangkok’s Chinatown) may close\, but elsewhere it will be business as usual. Visitors to Thailand during Chinese New Year can expect to hear plenty of firecrackers going off. You will also notice that many Thai people wear red and hand out ang pao (red money packets). \nExpect hotels and cities to be crowed\, and fun. Officially it is one day\, but most areas celebrate for 1-2 weeks. When we lived in Malaysia\, most companies were closed to two weeks. \nChinese New Year parades and street festivals take place in several areas of Thailand. Some of the most colorful events take place in Ayutthaya\, Bangkok\, Chiang Mai\, Nakhon Sawan\, Phuket\, Trang and Udon Thani.
