SUMMARY:H.M. Queen Suthida Birthday
DESCRIPTION:The Queen’s Birthday is a national holiday in Thailand held annually on June 3rd since 2019. If June 3rd falls on a weekend\, the holiday will be observed on the following Monday. \nThis holiday marks the birthday of the current queen of Thailand\, Queen Suthida. \nThe birthday of Queen Dowager Sirikit will also remain a holiday as National Mother’s Day on August 12th. \nHis Majesty the King named General Suthida Vajiralongkorn na Ayudhya the new queen on May 1st 2019 and conferred upon Queen Suthida the formal title of Her Majesty the Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana on May 4th 2019. \nThe Queen was born on June 3rd 1979 in Hat Yai\, Songkla\, Thailand\, to Kham and Jangheang Tidjai. She graduated from Assumption University in 2000. She took up a job as a flight attendant with Jalways Airlines – which is now part of Japan Airlines – from 2000 to 2003 and later Thai Airways in 2003 till 2008. Since 2010 Suthida had been serving in the Ratchawanlop Guards\, a unit of bodyguards protecting the then-Crown Prince\, since 2013\, according to Thai media. \nAfter Vajiralongkorn’s divorce from the former Princess Srirasmi\, Suthida was linked to the future king romantically. By October 2016\, international media had picked up on the rumours and declared her as the future consort. \nThe announcement of the new holiday was made by Nattaporn Jatusripitak\, spokesperson for the deputy prime minister in charge of economic affairs. The proposal from the Secretariat of the Cabinet for the Cabinet’s declaration was made in response to a royal command from His Majesty the King. \nAcross Thailand\, buildings are decorated to honour their queen\, with the most splendid are in Bangkok\, where many buildings and streets are festooned with coloured lights\, flowers\, and portraits of the queen. People are encouraged to wear purple (The Queen’s ‘colour’) to honour her and buildings in Bangkok are decorated with yellow (the colour of the King) and purple in celebration.

SUMMARY:Vesak (Buddha Day)
DESCRIPTION:Visakha Bucha Day is an important Thai holiday traditionally observed by Buddhists in South Asia\, Southeast Asia\, Tebet and Mongolia. The festival is marked on the full moon day of every sixth lunar month\, which typically falls in May each year. The day marks three Key Events in Buddha’s life: the birth\, enlightenment\, and death of Buddha. \nIn Thailand\, where Vesak Day is known as Visakha Buja Day (Visakha Puja Day)\, Buddhists usually make merits by going to temples\, vowing to keep the Buddhists precepts\, offering food to monks\, listening to Dhamma Talks and practicing Vipassana meditation in the temples. \nIn Chiang Mai\, Visakha Bucha Day is celebrated by many locals walking 11kms to the summit of Doi Suthep Temple. \nThese Are The Best Crazy Festivals In Thailand

SUMMARY:Royal Ploughing Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The Royal Ploughing Ceremony\, also known as The Ploughing Festival\, is an ancient royal rite held in many Asian countries to mark the traditional beginning of the rice growing season. The royal ploughing ceremony\, was also practiced in pre-colonial Burma until 1885\, when the monarchy was abolished. \nIn Thailand\, the ploughing ceremony dates back to the Sukhothai Kingdom (1238–1438). According to Quaritch Wales\, a former adviser to Kings Vajiravudh (Rama VI) and Prajadhipok (Rama VII) of Siam (1924–1928)\, in his book Siamese State Ceremonies\, the Thai adopted the Ploughing Ceremony in toto from the Khmers when they obtained the freedom from Khmer Empire upon the independence of Sukhothai in mid-13th century. \nOther than a morale-boosting strategy\, the Royal Ploughing\, or the auspicious ceremony of Charot Phra Nangkhan Raek Na Khwan (จรดพระนังคัลแรกนาขวัญ) as called in Thai\, serves to announce the beginning of the growing season. The ruler or head of state will preside over the ceremony to deliver this message to the people.

SUMMARY:Coronation Day
DESCRIPTION:Many countries have days that celebrate or commemorate the head of state. For Thailand\, the Coronation Day\, or Wan Chatra Mongkol\, is an auspicious occasion to celebrate the coronation anniversary of the Thai monarch. Rituals are performed on the royal regalia which symbolizes kingship.  In the current reign of King Rama X\, Coronation Day marks the anniversary of His Majesty’s coronation on 4 May 2019. \nThe rituals performed on Coronation Day developed over time. In the reign of King Rama IV\, the King\, in his private event\, made merit to celebrate the royal umbrella or chatra (ฉัตร)\, the Thai symbol of kingship. As a result\, Coronation Day in Thai is called Wan Chatra Mongkol (วันฉัตรมงคล) meaning “Auspicious Day of the Royal Umbrella.” \nThe merit-making ceremony for Coronation Day rituals was held privately in the Grand Palace until King V turned it into a state event. In his reign\, Coronation Day’s ceremony included the conferral of Order of Chula Chao Klao\, firing of gun salute\, paying homage to the late kings\, and merit-making in celebration of the Royal Regalia. In the reign of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI)\, merit-making for the late kings was added to list of rituals. Nowadays\, in the current reign of King Vajiralongkorn (Rama X)\, Coronation Day celebrations span three days\, with the May 4 announced as a public holiday. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Songkran-Thai New Year 2025
DESCRIPTION:Songkran is an annual festival which takes place over 3 days during the traditional Thai New Year\, April 13th-15th (in almost all provinces). The official Songkran festival lasts 3 days but\, in reality\, the whole week is taken over by a mass celebration as the whole country shuts down for a momentous water fight. Wild scenes of exuberance can be seen throughout the Kingdom with music\, dancing\, drinking and people drenched from head to toe. Water guns\, hose pipes\, buckets\, in fact\, anything you can get your hands on can be used to splash people\, and one thing is for certain: you will get wet! \nAs April is the hottest month of the year in Thailand\, everyone gets involved with this country-wide water fight and it brings great relief from the soaring temperatures. Songkran started as a Buddhist tradition\, using a light sprinkling of water to symbolize purification but\, as time went by\, people began splashing each other in a more playful manner until recent years\, when the entire country becomes one almighty water fight celebrated by millions! \n  \nThese Are The Best Crazy Festivals In Thailand

SUMMARY:Chakri Memorial Day
DESCRIPTION:Thailand observes Chakri Memorial Day as a public holiday on April 6th every year. Officially known as “King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke the Great Day and Chakri Dynasty Memorial Day\,” this holiday commemorates the establishment of the Chakri Dynasty by King Rama I in 1782\, over two centuries ago. One of King Rama’s first decrees was to make Krung Thep (“City of Angels\,” also known as Bangkok) the capital of Siam. \nChakri Memorial Day not only commemorates the coronation and contributions of King Rama I but all the kings of the Chakri Dynasty\, culminating in His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn (Rama X)\, the current reigning monarch. \nOn this national public holiday\, government offices\, banks\, and schools are closed\, though other businesses may remain open and are unaffected by the celebrations. Chakri Memorial Day is always held on April 6th\, just a week before the annual Songkran Festival (Traditional Thai New Year).

SUMMARY:Chinese New Year
DESCRIPTION:Although it’s never been an official holiday in Thailand\, Chinese New Year is celebrated throughout the country and not just by those who can claim Chinese heritage. Some restaurants and businesses in certain areas (such as Bangkok’s Chinatown) may close\, but elsewhere it will be business as usual. Visitors to Thailand during Chinese New Year can expect to hear plenty of firecrackers going off. You will also notice that many Thai people wear red and hand out ang pao (red money packets). \nExpect hotels and cities to be crowed\, and fun. Officially it is one day\, but most areas celebrate for 1-2 weeks. When we lived in Malaysia\, most companies were closed to two weeks. \nChinese New Year parades and street festivals take place in several areas of Thailand. Some of the most colorful events take place in Ayutthaya\, Bangkok\, Chiang Mai\, Nakhon Sawan\, Phuket\, Trang and Udon Thani.
