Bonus: For the month of January 2024, they are offering the premium plan for only $24 yr, that is 50% off. That makes their premium plan only $2 a month.
If you’re unfamiliar with Going, it’s an email service that sends flight deals right to your inbox. The service sends out deals for cheap flights to international and domestic (U.S.) destinations. It has free and paid options, that means you can sign up to receive flight deal emails for completely free as a “Limited” member.
Going claims that most of the deals it sends out are 40% to 90% off average prices.
Questions?
So you are probably wondering a few things, which I was. So here are some answers. Essentially, think of it as a friend sharing a secret cheap flights deal with you, and directing you to the place to book it.
No, they not a travel agency. They find deals cheap flights departing from your chosen airport and sends you an alert when they find a deal that meets their standards. If you decide to snag one of those deals on the cheap flights, they show you where to book it, typically directly with the airline. But they don’t actually sell you the ticket themselves.
The free version of using their service works well. But if you really want to unlock the extra features, you should upgrade. Again, there is a promotion going on now in January 2024!
The very best economy class deals only go to Premium members including Mistake Fares, peak season deals, domestic deals. They typically save you an average of $500, so the savings from one flight alone gives you a 10x return on your membership. As a Premium member you get more deals sent to you.
Elite members get all that plus more. You are able to control the deals you receive, and you can see every single Mistake Fare they come across, no matter where it departs from in the US, in addition to receiving deals for seats in premium economy, business, and first-class, so you can travel in style. Elite members also have exclusive access to Going with Points deals hand-picked by their experts to help you utilize your points and miles!
You can spend hours as I usually do searching for the best flights, or have Going help with the process. Some other facts are:
- Add-on fees: Many airlines use add-on fees to make their tickets appear cheaper. They only send you deals they rate exceptional after factoring in taxes, bag fees, and any extra add-ons.
- Layovers: A cheap flight isn’t a good deal if you spend your entire vacation at the airport. They will only send you flights with reasonable flight connection times.
- Airlines: Not all airlines are created equal. They avoid the lower-rated airlines and highlight deals on top-rated airlines so you travel in comfort.
- Timing: Some of the deals we send, like Mistake Fares, last for only a few hours. They alert you of these deals right away so you can jump on them and purchase your tickets before the deal expires or the prices are fixed by the airline.
Here’s how it works:
- Sign up for a free account. No credit card is necessary.
- Set your airport that you normally fly out from (you can choose up to 5 airports).
- Emails with deals come right to your inbox. They’ll tell what the normal price is so you know how much you’re saving and show you what airport it’s out of and what the time frame for the cheap tickets are.
When you get those emails, they’ll look like this:
After you click on the email it takes you to the deal on the Going site. Where there is also airline information, price histories, and the link to book it.
If you’re at all interested, I’d sign up for a free plan and then if you decide you want to upgrade, you can. (FYI: the Premium Plan for Going is $49 a year). You can also try out the Premium or Elite memberships for 14 days for free if you’d like.
Here are the main differences between a free (what they call a “Limited” membership) and a Premium plan:
- Premium members get better deals. Going says they save their best deals for Premium and Elite members, so you’re going to get better deals as a paid member than with the free ones.
- Watchlist. Looking to go somewhere specific? Premium and Elite members can find, watch, and get alerts for the destinations they want.
- Premium members get MORE deals. As a free member, you’ll get some great deals, but you’ll get a lot MORE great deals as a premium member.
- Premium and Elite members get the deals earlier. Emails to these members go out 1-2 days before they go to free members, so if it’s a deal that will go fast, you’ll have more time to book it before it’s gone. They are also sent more often.
- Premium members get domestic deals too. Free memberships only get deals for cheap international flights, so if you also want cheap tickets in the US, you’ll want a Premium membership.
- Mistake fares are reserved for Premium members. If there are mistake fares (which are the golden ticket of cheap flights), you’ll get those as a Premium member.
- Elite members can set 10 airports to see deals from. As a free member you get five airports.
- Elite and Premium members get domestic deals sent to them. Limited members only get international.
Remember: For the month of January 2024, they are offering the premium plan for only $24 yr, that is 50% off. That makes their premium plan only $2 a month.

More features about Going:
Discounts offered. They offer 25% off memberships to Active Military, Veterans, Students, Teachers, Healthcare Professionals.
- They choose GOOD flights. They aren’t sending you ones with an awful layover or leaving at 2 a.m. or flying on an airline where you need to bring your own seatbelt and oxygen mask. They call it the Mom Test or the Bestie Test – if it’s not a flight they’d send to their BFF or put their mom on, they aren’t going to send it to you.
- You can look at deals on their site at any time! I love having the emails come through, but it’s also nice that you can log in to their site and see all the current flight deals in one place.
- If you refer a friend, you get a free month of Premium membership. Forward a deal to a friend or send them your link (you’ll find it in your account) and if they sign up – even just for a free membership – your account will automatically convert to a Premium Membership for a month and then return to your free membership when that month is up (or if you refer multiple friends, you’ll get multiple free months).
One of my favorite aspects of Scott’s Cheap Flights is “The Bestie Test,” where the service will only send out a deal it would recommend to its best friend.
That means a cheap airfare isn’t enough. The itinerary needs to have a good routing that minimizes your travel time, so either a nonstop flight or one with a reasonable connection time.
Plus, the deal needs to be on an airline that’s not considered a low-cost carrier and not for last-minute travel.
If anything, as a travel nut, I think its fun getting deals sent to your email, even if you just use the free service. Clink button to sign up on their site.
Just as important as getting a good flight deal is to make sure you have travel insurance. Read more on why and the best options.
