Packing Checklist And What You Need To Bring

Travel Luggage Cartoon

Planning tools are always helpful. We are come up with an essential travel packing checklist you can use for traveling to Thailand or anywhere else. Since Thailand is a warm climate our checklist is geared to warm destinations. Download our checklist or print it out!

The first thing I would tell anyone traveling to Thailand or anywhere in Southeast Asia is to PACK LIGHT! First of all it is either warm, hot, or super hot, with a few exceptions. In the northern Chiang Mai Thailand mountains it can actually get relatively cool. However this is only November-January in the higher elevations.

I can’t stress enough to pack light. Who want so lug around multiple bags? You may want to also move around the region or country, so less will be more. Perhaps if your bringing your golf clubs would be the only reason I could see to check a second bag with the airline.

Try to pack as if you were going backpacking. In that case your essential travel packing checklist would only include what you could carry.

Doing laundry is cheap in Thailand. Hotels will charge more. Local shops will do laundry by the Kilo for very little. Drop it off and pick it up. Another reason to not bring too many clothes.

In a previous article Planning your first trip to Thailand?, we talk about the fact that you can buy anything in the cities. Thailand has some of the best clothes shopping, especially for women. Essential items, electronics, and common medications can be bought at stores all over the city.

Most airlines have an international luggage limit of 2 checked bags of 23KG or less, plus carry on. Unless you my wife or bringing items for people, you should never need this much.

If your brining items back check you home customs regulations. For US customs click here.

Hope our checklist helps.

Agoda is the best place to book cheap affordable hotels in Thailand, especially near national parks. They also book flights as well.

Expedia is my favorite place to book flights, hotels, cars, and more. Their group includes Hotels.com and Vrbo for vacation rentals.

Viator is the top choice for activities. Book everything from a waterfall tour to scuba diving, jungle trekking to cooking classes. Do the Chiang Mai Golf Challenge from Viator.

12Go is the top transportation source for Asia. From busses to trains to regional flights.

Born in California, I found a passion for traveling at an early age. In 2010 I visit Thailand for the first time, which change my life. A year later I married my Thai wife, and we now have a house in Chom Thong Thailand. My goal for this website will be to bring our audience everything they could want to know about traveling to Thailand. "Southeast Asia has a real grip on me. From the very first time I went there, it was a fulfillment of my childhood fantasies of the way travel should be". -Anthony Bourdain
